The ride
Down through American Canyon and across CA-37 past Sears Point to Novato, then out Novato Boulevard into the west Marin hills.
Point Reyes–Petaluma Road brings you down to Point Reyes Station and Olema, and Sir Francis Drake Boulevard takes you out along the west shore of Tomales Bay to Inverness. Then you head back and north on Highway 1 along the east shore of the bay, past Marshall and Blakes Landing to Tomales, through some of the prettiest dairy country around.
From Tomales the route goes inland on Bloomfield Road through Bloomfield toward Sebastopol, then Gravenstein Highway and 101 to Petaluma. Kastania Road, the Lakeville Highway, Stage Gulch Road and Fremont Drive take you through the hills to Carneros and back to Napa. About 161 mi with ~2,000 ft of climbing and a 584 ft high point, an easy day with a lot of curves. Fuel's never far, but Point Reyes Station and Petaluma are the easy stops. Highway 1 along Tomales Bay is narrow, and slides and roadwork pop up there, so check conditions.
