The ride
This is the Georgetown loop run clockwise. Out through Jameson Canyon and up I-80 across the Yolo Causeway, then Highway 50 through Sacramento, Folsom, Cameron Park and Pollock Pines up to Riverton.
At Riverton you turn up Ice House Road into the Crystal Basin. The route takes the side roads by Big Hill Lookout and along the south shore of Union Valley Reservoir near Jones Place, then back up Ice House to the top and across to Wentworth Springs Road. That's the high country, the route's 6,558 ft high point, before Wentworth Springs carries you west past Quintette and down into Georgetown.
From Georgetown, Georgetown Road runs south through Kelsey and down to Placerville, and Highway 50 and I-80 take you home. About 323 mi with ~10,900 ft of climbing, a full day. Fuel up in Pollock Pines: from Riverton through the Crystal Basin and out Wentworth Springs to Georgetown is about 70 mi with no gas. The upper Ice House and Wentworth Springs roads are snowed in for part of the year, so check conditions with the Eldorado National Forest.
